As promised, Disney delivered today the full trailer for Aladdin. It offers us our first proper look at Guy Ritchie’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic, including a glimpse at some of the musical numbers.
Prior to today’s trailer, Disney had released two brief teasers, both of which were met with mixed responses. A large part of that was due to Will Smith’s appearance as the Genie, which thankfully looks much better in the context of the full film. We get a better idea of the direction Smith will be taking with the beloved character that was originally voiced by the late Robin Williams in the animated movie, and it’s actually quite charming. He doesn’t appear as over-the-top silly as Williams’ Genie, but he does have some comedic moments, especially as he plays matchmaker with Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.
The rest of the trailer is filled with quick shots from various scenes that very closely resemble the original film, set to the track “A Whole New World,” as sung by Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott).
