During Disney’s 2019 shareholder meeting, the company announced that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening ahead of schedule this year. More specifically, fans will be able to step foot into a galaxy far, far away when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31 at Disneyland Resort in Southern California and August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening in phases. The first phase will include just one of the two rides planned, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, as well as the full range of shops and restaurants.
Later this year, phase two will see the opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, “the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality.”
Disney also revealed that guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, in addition to their park admission ticket. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access the new land.
There are currently no plans at this time to enact the reservation system for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World Resort when it opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29. However, capacity is limited and you can bet it’ll be reached fairly early during those first few weeks (possibly months). Extra Magic Hours will be available for those staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels (Extra Magic Hours or Magic Morning will not be offered at Disneyland Park).
